High Contrast by Tess Bowery was an incredibly brilliant first book in the Evolution Ink series! I loved everything about this book! The build up between Joseph and Cody, the slight bit of thrills of break-ins and a touch of Mob clashing that was in there as well. The whole thing was a fun read that delighted my imagination.
Joseph was adorable as a “geek” to a badass twin who works in a tattoo parlor where Joseph meets Cody, the new piercer. So of course Joseph is gonna start drooling and fantasizing about the new guy cause according to Joseph Cody is HAWT as sin. It was delicious watching Cody and Joseph interact with each other and seeing the story play out.
Cody was an amazingly strong character that seemed to seamlessly fit into the group Joseph is a part of with his twin at the tattoo shop. His history was heart breaking but it made him seem all the more real to me. Though I really thought some of Cody’s past would show up in the rest of the book I was surprised it just included his ex. I was hoping there would be some of Cody’s love of “flying” thrown in there to demonstrate but not this time. Perhaps in a sequel? Hint, hint…
SO, this book though amazingly well written and incredibly easy to get lost in felt like there was a lot more potential that wasn’t realized. I can’t help but feel like there could have been more. So I gave this one a 4.5 star because honestly, it really was a phenomenal read and I couldn’t wait to see how everything unfolded for our two heroes. I hope to see both Joseph and Cody in future sequels! Highly recommend this to all the peoples in the world!

Jacob Shain is your average member of Generation Screwed. He has a boring internship, no cash flow, and a tiny NYC apartment he has to share with Ethan, his much-cooler, tattoo-artist twin brother. Not to mention his love life is DOA. At least, until his brother’s shop hires on a new piercer, and Jacob’s humdrum life takes a turn for the weird.
Cody Turner is gorgeous, funny and kind—everything Jacob wants in a boyfriend. Except for the way he refuses to talk about his past, or where he lives, or anything about his personal life.
When Ethan is arrested while on a mission of mercy, the reason Cody is so tight lipped comes to light. And while Jacob and Cody fight to understand the depth of their feelings for one another, the police dogs catch their scent. So does the local mob.
Now Jacob has to make the hardest choice of his life: stay safe like a good boy, or dive headfirst into a world he barely understands…and hope Cody is there to break his fall.
