Beta Test (#gaymers #2) by Annabeth Albert | Review

Beta Test by Annabeth AlbertYou don’t have to be a gamer to love Beta Test by Annabeth Albert! The second installment in her #gaymers series stars Ravi and Tristan and they will steal your heart.

I’m going to be honest with you guys. I adored everything about Status Update (book 1 in this series). It was one of my favorite books of 2015 and I actually reread it immediately after I finished Beta Test because I missed Noah and Adrian. So, full disclosure, I wasn’t sure anything would be able to live up to the pedestal I had lovingly placed Status Update.

I don’t know why I was worried! Albert once again created wonderfully complex characters that were easy to fall in love with. Ravi, with his swagger and independence, was a perfect counterpoint to Tristan’s insecurities and shyness.

The sexual tension was red hot but it crept up on me a little bit. Tristan and Ravi’s progression from enemies to lovers was fluid and natural. They didn’t just look at each other one day and decide they had to be together. No, instead they got progressively closer as they bonded during their forced road trip.

One of my favorite things in this book was how Ravi couldn’t help but feel protective of Tristan. Even before he really likes him, Ravi is going out of his way to make Tristan feel safe and more comfortable. I also loved how faceted Tristan was as a character. He wasn’t just shy, or just organized, or just sweet. He was all that and more wrapped up in a package that poor Ravi had no chance in resisting.

I really liked that Ravi wasn’t just another white guy. But it also didn’t feel like Albert had forced a person of color into the book just to satisfy those of us asking for more diversity among LGBT characters. His ethnicity fit him and the story seamlessly. See people? It can be done.

Beta Test definitely can be read as a standalone and still be completely enjoyed. However, as I’ve already stated, Status Update is also fabulous so you should absolutely read both.

Full of so many wonderful things–road trips, enemies-to-lovers, delightful characters–Beta Test is the complete package. Annabeth Albert knows how to write books that you can’t help but fall hopelessly in love with. I adore this series so much and I cannot wait for the next book!

Player vs. Player. Fight!

Brilliant graphic designer Ravi Tandel is ahead of the game—he’s just been asked to present a top secret project at a huge conference in Seattle. All systems are go…until he learns his buttoned-up office nemesis is coming along for the ride.

Tristan Jones isn’t really the gamer type, but he knows the back end of the video game business inside out. Together, he and Ravi will give an awesome presentation. If they survive the cross-country trip first.

Tossed together in close quarters, Ravi’s shocked to see Tristan’s sexy, softer side emerge from such a conservative shell. He’s less shocked to learn his handsome colleague’s prominent family would never support an out-and-proud son. But Ravi didn’t struggle through his own coming out to hide who he is now. To be together, Tristan will have to push past his fear and ultimately decide: Does he want a future with Ravi? Or is it game over before they’ve even begun?
